JYJ Symbaloo Webmix

I was super surprised of the attention that was received on my last post regarding the LA JYJ showcase. I knew JYJ was a well known group internationally, but their fan base is amazing. I have a thing or two to learn from this group in marketing and branding.

Anyways, if you guys don’t know, I use to work for a company called Symbaloo. Symbaloo is a free website that allows you to compile all your favorite, links, feeds, videos, and more into one visual platform. Me and an old coworker last week thought it would be interesting to create a “webmix” on JYJ. This webmix should allow all you Cassies to navigate through all your favorite JYJ links with ease, as well as buy their products. Please let me know if I am missing any important links/resources and I will update it accordingly. Please share with all your friends if you like it!

JYJ Showcase in LA

Because of some awesome friends, I had the pleasure of getting invited to the JYJ showcase in Los Angeles on Friday night. In all honesty, I had absolutely NO IDEA who this group was. So basically, this group is made up of Yoochun, Jaejoong, and Junsu use to be a part of a bigger group in Korea named DBSK. DBSK was extremely popular internationally during the early 2000′s and they actually hold the record for having the largest fan club in the world. As time went on, a part of this group branched off and formed JYJ this year. After hearing countless positive views about this group from a lot of my friends, I decided to go to the concert and see if JYJ lived up to its hype.

I got into my car and drove from Orange County to Los Angeles around 5pm. A what was suppose to be a 1 hour drive went up to 2.5 hours because of the bad traffic I ran into getting there. I finally arrived around 7:30pm, parked my car, and went to the front of the line to look for my friends to get my ticket to get in. I was expecting to Read the rest of this entry »

Asian Americans in the Music Industry

It is 2001, I am sitting in front of my TV in my living room witnessing Jin clench his 7th victory on 106 & Parks freestyle friday. I remember being excited as hell seeing an Asian American make his mark on an industry dominated by mainstream media. What stunned me even more was when he pulled out his pendent showing the “double R’s” revealing that he was going to be signed by Ruff Ryders. At that point in time, I thought nothing in my head but one thing: “This man was going to make it”.

Needless to say, I was very disappointed when he slowly disappeared from the scene. I believe that it was a combination of poor marketing and lack of direction from the company he was working with back then. They made the mistake of Read the rest of this entry »
